Program Details

MathWorks is organizing a 5 week online robotics program for BEST Robotics teams. Teams will spend two hours each week learning how to design Simulink models to autonomously control a small wheeled robot. Complimentary MathWorks software (MATLAB, Simulink & Stateflow) will be provided to each team. Each team will receive a robot kit and will be tasked with completing a cool homework assignment/project each week. Teams will be assigned a trained Simulink expert who will be their go-to person if they run into issues with an assignment. Teams that successfully attend and complete the program will keep the robot kit which can be used for many other activities. Teams can continue using the complimentary software for the BEST Robotics competition.

Participating in this program your team will:

  • Learn how to use Simulink. This software is used in the BEST Robotics competition for the VEX Cortex.
  • Develop programming skills prior to the BEST competition season.
  • Learn to design autonomous robots that do not require a joystick.

Program Outline

Week 1 – Introduction to Simulink and the robot kit.

Week 2 – Introduction to Motors and Sensors

Week 3 – Designing a Line-Following robot

Week 4 – Designing an Obstacle Avoidance robot

Week 5 – Designing a rescue robot
